DESIGN LOUIS GEORGE CELEBRATES ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2017. THIS VERITABLE INSTITUTION OF DESIGN HAS INTRODUCED COUNTLESS MONTREALERS TO CLASSIC EUROPEAN FURNITURE… AND SO MUCH MORE!
It’s no secret that when it comes to interior decor, beautiful bedding and stunning furniture, Design Louis George is the place to go, and has been for years. The boutique, established in 1987 by Louis Carioto, is where people in the know come to find unique pieces from such collections as Keno Bros. and Althorp Living History, spectacular lamps and light fixtures, and exceptional embroidered bedding by Yves Delorme, any of which can set the tone for an entire room. “We’re known primarily for our traditional, superiorquality furniture, but we also have more transitional and eclectic pieces,” says Mr. Carioto.
Design Louis George is an exclusive retailer of furniture from the Althorp Living History collection. Each item in the collection is a reproduction or piece inspired by something originally found at Althorp, the ancestral seat of the Spencer family in Northamptonshire, England. Charles, the Earl of Spencer and brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, manages the Althorp collection, and will soon be in Montreal to introduce the latest additions to guests of Design Louis George.
For the past few years, Design Louis George has been welcoming customers to its store in Ville Mont-Royal, after 27 years on the fifth floor at Ogilvy, in downtown Montreal. “We wanted to get a little closer to our clientele, and be able to offer people even more,” explains Mr. Carioto. “At Ogilvy, we had 15,000 square feet. Our new store is 25,000 square feet. It’s also a beautifully bright and open space.”
So what is the secret to the long-standing success of Design Louis George? An extensive line of furniture and accessories, both classic and contemporary; a fabulous selection of stunning and original home linens; an impeccable personalized service (which includes custom window treatments and interior decorating, among other services); and a careful attention to detail. As the founder prepares to pass control of the company to his daughter, Lianne—an interior designer, and longstanding employee—he looks to the future with great optimism.
Here’s to the next 30 years!
